two kinds of goth

i think there is a difference between finding something dark and creepy and saying it is ugly, and because it is ugly you love it, and finding something dark and creepy and saying it is beautiful, and because it is beautiful you love it.

i have been asked how i can like the dark and the creepy while having no affinity for a lot of horror media. i feel like the distinction is clear, though i've found it difficult to articulate. i like the things that go bump in the night and i wish nothing but the best for them. for both of us. i like things that are good and beautiful, and this includes the spiders living in my garage. on particularly melancholy days they are near the top of the list. i hope there is fog tomorrow. i hope there is rain.
